Organization

The San Juan Wildlife Federation was organized on November 27, 1957 for the purpose of promoting the conservation of this nation's natural resources. During the 1970's and 1980's the Federation was instrumental in bringing to the fore front environmental issues concerning several major government programs. Some of those programs include the Animas-La Plata Diversion project, Bureau of Land Management - B-Square Ranch land exchange, Navajo Indian Irrigation Project, June 4th, 1976 Tailings spill into the Animas River, and the construction of the PNM and APS generating stations. For its efforts the Federation received the President's Award from the National Wildlife Federation and Stan Boyer, its President, received the KOB Wildlife Conservation Award.  The Federation promoted in the past and continues to promote organized firearms education, events, and competitions. A recent addition is the popular Youth Sportsfest held annually.

Our Objectives

1. To protect our country's natural resources from abuse, over-use, and squander; thereby conserving those precious resources for future generations.

2. The Federation is organized to provide public firearms safety and shooting experiences for adults and youth, to sponsor public firearms safety and shooting events for the benefit of the communities and to encourage and participate in the furthering of public firearms safety and hunter safety in public schools and the communities of San Juan County.

Our Pledge

"I pledge to protect and conserve the natural resources of America. I promise to educate future generations so they may become caretakers of our water, air, land and wildlife."
