Air Rifle Leagues

The Air Rifle Leagues will consist of two types, Sporter Air Rifle (SAR) and Air Rifle Silhouette (ARS). The Sporter Air Rifle League will be conducted indoors and will held year-round. The Air Rifle Silhouette will be held outdoors and will be held during Daylight Saving months.

The Junior Air Rifle League is recruiting shooters for the Fall league. The organizational meetings for League will be held on Sunday, August 19 and August 26, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. The league will begin in September 10th and end on December 10th, 2012. The League will meet at 6:30 P.M. at the San Juan Wildlife Federation club house and indoor range. Match shooting will begin at 7:00 P.M. New shooters that have not attended the all five hours of classroom instruction must attend the instruction from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on September 3rd or 10th before they will be allowed to shoot at the range. The remaining three hours of instruction will be the first hour of the next three meetings. Download the Fall League Flyer here. Please click here to view/download the Fall Schedule of Events. The Ranges Rules must be read and the Participant Indemnity and Release signed by the shooters' parents or guardian prior to the first meeting .

Sporter Air Rifle League:

The Sporter Air Rifle League will consist of three divisions, Junior, Intermediate and Sub-junior. The Junior Division consists of eligible participants from 18 to 20 years old. The Intermediate division of 15 to 17 year olds. The Sub-junior of 8 to 14 year olds. Participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

The description of Sporter Air Rifle competition, qualifications, equipment specifications, etc. can be obtained from the NRA web site by clicking here to obtain the official NRA rule book.

Participants may use air rifles provided by the San Juan Wildlife Federation or may choose to use their own air rifle as long as it complies with the specifications in the Sporter Air Rifle Position Rule Book. Pellets and targets will be provided by the San Juan Wildlife Federation.

Targets to be used are NRA approved TQ-18 10 Meter Air Rifle Training Targets for practice and NRA AR-5/10 10 Meter Air Rifle Targets for scoring.

The matches will be held on an evening yet to be determined. Each match will consist of 10 rounds in each of the standing, kneeling, sitting and prone positions. Fifteen minutes will be allowed for the prone position and 20 minutes for each of the other positions. Five minutes will be allowed for scoring of each position's targets and 5 minutes will be allowed for each change of position.

The San Juan Wildlife Federation Indoor Range will be open at 5:45 P.M. for setup. Operations and safety instruction will begin at 6:00 P.M. Practice firing will begin at either 7:00 P.M. or 8:00 P.M. and will last for approximately 20 minutes. Match will begin at approximately 7:30 P.M. and last until approximately 9:15 P.M.

Air Rifle Silhouette League:

The Air Rifle Silhouette League will consist of three divisions, Junior, Intermediate and Sub-junior. The Junior Division consists of eligible participants from 18-20 years old. Participants may use air rifles provided by the San Juan Wildlife Federation or may choose to use their own air rifle as long as it complies with the specifications in the NRA Silhouette Rifle Rules book for Sporter air rifle. Pellets and targets will be provided by the San Juan Wildlife Federation.

Targets to be used are NRA approved 1/8" thick rolled steel, scaled chicken, turkey, pigs and rams.

Dates and times for matches are TBD. Currently, sign-up for this league is to gauge interest in establish such a league. If there is enough interest, those who sign-up will be contacted to determine dates and times of the league matches.
